1987 Marilyn Monroe nude medal Monnaie de Paris

1987 Marilyn Monroe nude medal Monnaie de Paris

Originally minted in bronze in 1986, and then in gold at the behest of a Japanese dealer, these were taken off the market in 1990 due to a lawsuit over the likeness rights of the deceased star.

This problem seems to have been put to rest August 31st, with the estate failing to show that Marilyn was domiciled in California at the time of her death (one state with a likeness right law) since it had earlier claimed she was domiciled in New York in order to avoid some of California’s more onerous inheritance taxes.

What will this mean for the price of this medal? Who knows.  It’s a gem of a medal though, and I got it for a low BIN, probably because of the poor photograph.  The medal is completely polished, which makes photographing difficult, but I do believe these shots do her justice.
