Issued by Somalia in 1966, this coin celebrates the fifth anniversary of Somali independence from Britain.  In hindsight, probably not something to be very happy about….

This is a pretty big coin at over 2.25 oz total weight and 2.0254 AGW.  A portrait of Aden Abdullah Osman Daar, the first president of Somalia is on the obverse, with the national arms of Somalia on the reverse. KM#14 in Krause.  Again, the price was right for a relatively interesting piece.
